Background.
The municipality of
Arendal, GRID-Arendal and two schools in Arendal (Birkenlund junior
secondary school and Tyholmen secondary school) agreed in 1998 to
make a City State of the Environment on the Internet for Arendal. By
this Arendal entered the CEROI-project
as one of the pilot cities.
The
objective. Arendal’s contribution as a pilot city is to
show that students are reliable to make an environment report within
the CEROI concept. The schools and their students are valuable
resources for the municipality at the same time as they increase
their competence in project studies, environmental concern and IT.
The carrying out.
Through environment-related projects the
students collect data from local authorities, libraries, scientific
institutions, etc., write their reports and present them in this
CEROI-report on the internet.
Due to this the Arendal report is not a complete report. New issues
are added to the report as soon as student groups have made a study
on the issue. The time schedule is set by the two schools, which
gives a discontinues upgrading of the report.
By the release Aug. 23. 1999, there
were approx. 70 web-pages with Norwegian text and 40 pages
with English text. (Some of these pages have both
languages.)
