The Climate in Arendal.

Read about Temperature and Rain at Torungen lighthouse outside Arendal.
(Data from The Norwegian Institute of Meteorology, Oslo.)

Temperature

The periode 1988-1998 includes 4 winter seasons (89, 90, 92 og 93) less cold than normal (4-5 degrees warmer), and only one winter season (1994) colder than normal.

Among the summer seasons the 1997-summer is exceptional with an everage of 5 degrees above the normal.

The 4-6 mild winter seasons  give warmer everage in January, February and partly in March than the normal.
The rest of the year there are only small variations compared to the normal situation.
February is the coldest month, July-August the warmest.

The mild winters and normal summers give a yearly mean temperature somewhat above the normal most of the years.

Rain (and snow)

From month to month there are considerable variations from the normal (which is not uncommon).
In 1988 both winter and summer were considerabely wetter than normal.

The everage monthly rain does not show big differances from the normal.

April-May are the dryest months, October the wettest.

Normal yearly rain is close to 900 mm. Among the shown years 1988 had about 50 % extra rain, whereas 4-5 years had about 20-30 % less rain than normal (1989, 93, 95, 96 and 97).
