This table shows a decreasing number of
farms the last decade. This may be caused by several conditions.
During the last years there has been a decrease within the
employment of agriculture. People used to be more dependent on
agriculture, but as new trades develop, more and more people give up
agriculture. As more people move to cities, the number of farms and
farmers decreases. Low income is also a reason.
The table also shows that the average
size of farms has been increasing. When the farmer gives up his
activities on the farm, it’s normal for somebody else to take over,
often the neighbours. In this way the size of the farms
increases.
