Durban has a humid subtropical climate, with relatively high rainfall, primarily falling in the summer months. The prevailing winds are north-east and south-west.

What can you do to improve the situation

Sunshine and Radiation
The climate of Durban can generally be described as humid subtropical with a warm summer and mild winter. The western part of the metropolitan area is more temperate extending towards the mist belt region of KwaZulu-Natal.

Temperature and Humidity
Daytime temperatures are typically between 18 and 26
EC with summer maximum temperatures reaching the lower thirties. Night-time temperatures seldom fall below 10EC in winter. Relative humidity levels are typically between 50% and 70%.

Rainfall
Durban has relatively high rainfall compared with other many areas in South Africa, with over 1000mm falling annually, mainly during the summer months.

Wind
Durban lies within the southern subtropical high pressure belt, coming strongly under the influence of eastward migrating high pressure systems. Parallel winds dominate the coastline with southwesterly and northeasterly winds roughly balanced in frequency. There is generally high wind variability.
