Durban Solid Waste Landfill Statistics

Tonnes of Waste Landfilled at Bisasar Road Landfill Site
This is a large sub-regional general landfill site operated by Durban Solid Waste, a department of the Metropolitan Council. Types of waste landfilled include:

  • Solid Waste (Domestic and Commercial)
  • Garden Refuse
  • Rubble
  • Mixed Loads
  • Condemned Foods
  • Sand etc
  • Whole Tyres
  • Asphalt
  • Polystyrene
  • Light Waste
  • Sanitary Waste
  • Perishable Foods
  • During the period September 1997 to April 1998 approximately 16 800 tonnes of "delisted" (i.e. reclassified from low hazardous) waste was diverted from the Bulbul Drive landfill site to the Bisasar Road landfill site.

This is a general landfill site operated by Durban Solid Waste,a department of the Metropolitan Council, since September 1997. No values are available before this date. Types of waste landfilled include:

  • Solid Waste (Domestic and Commercial)
  • Garden Refuse
  • Rubble
  • Mixed Loads
  • Sand etc
  • Whole Tyres
  • Municipal
  • Polystyrene
  • Light Waste

It must be noted that these tonnes have been derived by converting cubic volumes to mass and not at a weighbridge. They are thus approximate weights.

This is a large sub-regional general landfill site operated by Durban Solid Waste, a department of the Metropolitan Council, since July 1997. Types of waste landfilled include:

  • Solid Domestic Waste *
  • Garden Refuse *
  • Rubble *
  • Mixed Loads
  • Condemned Foods
  • Sand etc *
  • Whole Tyres
  • Polystyrene
  • Light Waste
  • Sanitary Waste
  • Perishable Foods
  • During the period September 1997 to April 1998 there was some diversion of "delisted" (i.e. reclassified from low hazardous) waste from the Bulbul Drive landfill site to the Mariannhill landfill site.
