  • Conservation of the built environment is however problematic due to the sensitivity surrounding the past political situation of the country. Opinions are divided along cultural and political lines about what part of South African history should be conserved or not.
  • There are also inadequate budgets to maintain all historical sites. These sites are not being used effectively to generate an income for their own upkeep.
