  • The Environmental Conservation Act 73 of 1989 is the most important law put in place to secure this environment.
  • Council policies are needed to maintain parks.
  • Linkage of areas through a network of green spaces
  • The development of parks, green areas, conservation areas and other open spaces should be a priority especially in the northwestern parts of Soweto.
  • Environmentally sensitive responses to the upgrading and maintenance of parks is required.

The "Keep South Africa Beautiful Association" has created a Tidy Town Programme in order adopt parks and keep them clean and sustainable. The following steps are recommended in the project:

GET THE FACTS
about the porblem in order to find out what and where the problem is

INVOLVE THE PEOPLE
who are part of the problem and part of the solution

IMPLEMENT THE PROJECT
set objectives and draw up a plan of action

FOCUS ON RESULTS
Long term results that can be evaluated

GIVE POSSITIVE RECOGNITION
to all involved
