  • Landfill sites Kya-sands (north of Randburg), Linbro Park (north Alexandra), Robinson Deep (between Roodepoort and Soweto), Marie Louise (south of Jhb CBD), Goudkoppies (southeast of Soweto and Ennerdale (west of Ennerdale).
  • State of landfill sites unknown.
  • The whole of Greater Jhb, especially the landfill sites need to adopt a sustainable approach to waste management, which includes waste reduction, prevention and minimisation, separation and recycling of waste, and appropriate disposal of litter, in order to minimise land pollution and improve the quality of the urban environment.
Mining activities
  • Mining dust, slimes dams, excavations and exposed slimes dams south of and near to the CBD, and the mining belt from the south of Denver, southeast of JHB through the south of Roodepoort.
  • Mining activities in the west, Doornkop, Durban Roodepoort Deep and in the northern areas around Main Reef Road.
  • Mining belt running from east to west in the central part of Greater Jhb.

 

 

  • The mining zone needs to be rehabilitated, by covering all dumps and slimes dams with indigenous grasses and reeds.
