Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic (Central Europe),

is the largest and most important town community of the state. Prague is a historic town and a cultural, social and political centre of European importance. It is the seat of the President, Parliament, Government and the other highest state authorities of the CR.
The town area is an administrative and self-governing unit - the Capital of Prague. It is divided into 57 autonomous town parts and 10 districts of the state administration. The council of the Capital of Prague with the board of representatives and the chief public official (mayor) are the highest authorities of the town self-government.
The roots of the present importance of Prague has grown up of the thousand-year´s history of the leading town of the Czech state. The first traces and remains of man living in this area originate in the period several ten thousands years before the town had come into existence.
