What is the general situation with environmental factors influencing the health of citizens of Prague?
The results collected by the system monitoring the health status of population as affected by environmental factors in 1997 represent a set of information obtained by a routine and stabilized range of monitoring activities in the fourth year of the system’s operation. All in all, the results presented herein suggest that applicable limits are exceeded very rarely both in Prague and in other monitored towns and cities. If such a situation occurs, it is generally viewed as a non-systematic change which is not subsequently confirmed by statistically more significant data. On the other hand, actual concentrations of an overwhelming majority of the monitored substances fall well short of the applicable limits.

 What is being done to fix the problems ?
The Hygienic Service (Surgeon General’s Office) of the Ministry of Public Health of the Czech Republic is continuously monitoring and assessing risk factors affecting human health and related to the environment. The cornerstone program is a system monitoring the health status of population as affected by environmental factors. The system has been implemented pursuant to Decree of the Government of the Czech Republic No. 369/1991.
