Toxic contamination

What is being done to solve the problems

Parliament of Georgia adopted the law on "harmful chemicals", but there are real problems with implementation of the law. By the order of the Minister of Environment, the Inter-sectoral POPs Working Group has been created (comprising the representatives of public health, agriculture, industry, energy and other bodies, also, representatives of local sanitary services and others), the designation of which is analysis of existing situation, elaboration of project (action) proposals, promotion of the implementation of sound management practices.

Accounting, analysis and evaluation of toxic pollutants does not occur in the city. Necessity and status of the activities of the bodies, registering/assessing the emissions of heavy metals, pesticides and other toxic pollutants is unsolved in Tbilisi. The public awareness and its involvement into decision-making process is very low .
