Waste disposal | Data
sources: National Environmental Action Plan
for Georgia, 1999; Waste mangement Master Plan for Tbilisi,
1998; Georgian Ministry of Environment,
1999.

The amount of wastes generated in
Tbilisi and its suburbs is increasing. There is no system of account
of city's wastes.
According to expert assessment, the quality
of wastes is changing; the fraction consisting from polymeric
materials is increasing (mainly at the expense of the imported
products and those of local manufacturing). The components of the
wastes studied in 1996 is given in the table:
|
Waste component |
Percent by weight |
| Glass |
2.7 |
| Paper |
33.9 |
| Mixed plastics |
2.1 |
| Leather |

| Wood wastes |

| Metals |
2.4 |
| Textiles |
4.8 |
| Organic (nutrition)

28.2 |

In the nearest future together with adoption of waste legislation
the slow-down/termination of these negative trends is
expected.
