International cooperation

International cooperation of Tbilisi City Municipality with municipalities of sister-cities Nantes, Palermo, Saarbrucken and Bristol started since late 70-s and is reactivated during the last 2-3 years.

Tbilisi-Nantes cooperation

Commencing from 1979, cooperation with Nant municipality is still continuing. In 1995 on that basis, physicians from Nant Hospital performed kidney transplantation operation. Today this type of operation continues to be performed by Georgian physicians with permanent assistance from French colleagues. There is exchange programme for school- and university students, organization of youth camps. An intensive exchange and cooperation program in the cultural sphere (Year of Georgian Culture, 1998; Pirosmani exhibition in Nantes Art Gallery' 1999 and others) has taken place. In the sphere of municipal services, there is cooperation between water supplier organizations of both cities. Nantes colleagues have trained three staff members of Tbilisi water supply authority in 1999.

Tbilisi-Palermo cooperation

Commencing from 1987, there is cooperation between municipalities, intensified last years. 150 children have spent 3-month holidays in Palermo and surrounding. They were accommodated in the families of Tbilisi sister-city.

Tbilisi-Saarbruecken cooperation

Since 1995, cooperation programm on land cadastr was started and is successfully continuing: aerial scanning, sample mapping, land register works were conducted. Successes of actual project initiate a country-wide land cadastr programme. In the sphere of municipal services, cooperation in the waste management is important. Waste management joint venture is established to conduct waste collection service in Tbilisi. Waste collection tracks are introduced for the Mtacminda-distrct works. In the nearest future the service will be enlarged to other districts of Tbilisi.

Tbilisi-Bristol cooperation

Tbilisi and Bristol are partner-cities from 1987. In 1997, this cooperation was reactivated by exchange of delegations from both municipalities. There is cooperation between environmental departments of both municipalities too. On that basis, Water Supply Department of Tbilisi municipality received "Landrover".
